Alternote the Note-taking App App Reviews

Great potential, but...

This seemed like the app that would replace the Apple Notes app for me, since I can sync it between devices more easily, and it was OK in the begining. There are a few main issues: 1) The search is not consistent, sometimes it finds the words that are inside those text notes, and sometimes it doen’t 2) Even though I clear the formatting, it is copying the text with some kind of strange formatting, and putting spaces between paragraphs, that are not evident in the default Evernote app That makes it less usable, and hopefully, with the release of the v2 of the app, this will be solved Until then on to the search for a better note app

Nice Product

I would have rated higher but I had a problem with the app. I created a document full of images and instructions. A few days later all of the images were gone. They never could sync with Evernote. However, images that are added to Evernote do sync with Alternote. Could definitely use some improvements. One suggestion that would really improve this app is the ability to mark up images.

pretty, but way too buggy to use

I don’t use Evernote because the design is tragic, and Alternote has addressed that, but the app itself is incredibly buggy. I oftentimes have to log into Evernote to see what I typed or pasted. Images are very difficult to put in (sometimes they show up, usually they don’t), and the formatting (via markdown) is very spotty. I hope they iron out the wrinkles as it has promise. Alternatively, maybe Evernote could just hire their designers.

Not worth the money

I can not add a new Notebook so that I can begin moving my notes from Notes app on my Mac. First of all, there is no way to import the notes that are in my Notes app and second I can’t even add a new notebook. This app has so many problems with it that they might want to make it free until they figure out basic functionality! I wish I hadn’t bought this. I thought that being able to add to do lists within my notes would make it worth the $4.99 because I’d be able to keep track of progress on projects within my notes. In addition, being able to add pics to my notes is a huge plus. Maybe this app only works if all you use is Evernote but they should then include it as an upgrade within Evernote not as a stand alone app. Very annoyed!

Excellent for an early release

I really like this. This initial version is missing a few things for note(book) management and markdown editing that I’d love to see, but the authoring experience makes the native evernote app feel like hand-chiseling a stone tablet. So it’s all good. It’s clear they’ve got their priorities right (or at least, aligned with mine); the features they really nailed are more important than the ones they haven’t yet (in v1.0). And for an MVP, that says a lot about the future of a product.

Please support more fonts.

The default fonts shown in AlterNote is not the same with EverNote app. And I love some fonts using in EverNote when writing. So please add more fonts to AlterNote.

Slow, Buggy

Beautiful app that does help motive me to review my classroom notes; there are multiple issues preventing me from rating it higher, hower: – The recent update causes the sync status bar to get stuck midway, so you get to see the “sync in progress” arrows revolving/rotating eternaly, which is annoying. – Another issue I have with this app is the fact that notes can take ≥10-15 seconds to load, specially if they have images; this is particularly jarring considering how fast the official Evernote app in loading text and visuals almost instantaneously. – When you enable the “distraction free” mode, the note (vertical) margins become mismatched (i.e., instead of having the text centered in the middle of the app window, the text appears to visible closer to the left than to the right side of the window). This is another distracting problem I have with Alternote. – I enjoy the option to change the look of the side bar, but the options available are quite limited and ugly. – Highlighting text (and undoing it) is extremly cumbersome for no apparent reason. Formating in general is somewhat broken, too. I will happily change my rating of this app once the above issues are addressed.

Has Potential But Poor Formatting

This app is great other than the formatting. When I change the font size of one note, it changes the font size of every single note. Also, when I change the font, and font size, half the time it will just change the font size of the title. There is no way to change the font or font size of just a certain part of the note. Also, headers only sometimes work, and here’s the worst of all: You can’t hit tab on an already written paragraph - it will tab every single line of the paragraph. And lists are just painful. I’ll give this a five stars once they create any type of decent formatting.

Good App

I really enjoy this app - it has become my default app for Evernote notes and general note taking. My one issue with it is that it doesn’t support code editing really, particularly inline. I wish it would expand its markdown shortcuts to include it. EDIT: The app also is buggy with header markdown formats and it is hard to remove the formatting once you use markdown for a line (particularly header commands). It would be nice if you clicked on a line it showed the initial markdown text or at least enabled you to clear formatting. EDIT EDIT: I looked on their website and I realized that they’re expanding support for full markdown in the near future. I’ll gladly change my review to 5-stars once this occurs. Another neat feature that could be useful would be some sort of export to PDF feature or LaTex formatting support but these are pipe dreams.

Awesome note taking app

I used to use Mou to take all my notes on OSX, but maintaining all the text/md files is a lot of work. Enter, Alternote, which syncs all my notes with Evernote so I never have to worry about where things are being stored. The interface is increadible and fits right along my other apps in OSX. This app deserves way more than 3/5, so if you’re looking for a new notes app or are generally an unorgainzed person try this app out.

Selective Sync

Evernote’s biggest shortcoming is selective sync. It’s nice to not have your home files tucked away on your work hard drive. Alternote provides selective sync and solves this long time Evernote problem. For that alone, it’s worth the introductory price.

Get this!

Wow! What a fantastic app. If you use Evernote than you should definitely buy this app. It’s replaced the actual Evernote desktop app as my main writing app. It’s smooth and minimalist so you have a distraction writing environment. I wish it had a few more editing features and night mode is blury on my retina display Mac, but those issues aside (and I’m sure they’ll be fixed in the next update) I love this app and it works so, so great!

GARBAGE

Make sure you constantly save to another app because if you lose sync or god forbid change your password on your evernote account, you will lose all your work. This app has no way of recovering lost data in the event of a crash or login issues. There is no caching outside of working memory further putting your data at risk. I lost about 20k words and untold lines of code thanks to this app. Risking your data is not worth the pretty app.

It forces me to have Evernote account

I purchased this app by mistake! It requieres to have Evernote accout. I do not have and do not want to have account in Evernote. Evernote is useless and wothless service after introduction iCloud services by Apple. So, please, update it to work without Evernote.

buggy, like everyone else says..

really want to like this app as it does have some nice features but it’s still really buggy, even after the beta testing period. when my laptop goes offline and then goes back online, the app refuses to sync until you quit and restart it. complains that it’s still offline even though the machine is clearly online now. formatting is also frustrating, especially when i use bulleted lists. often just stops following indenting rules and simply stops using the bullets altogether and then fixing it is a HUGE mess. anyway, will stick with it for now and hope for a bug-fix release soon.. definitely has promise.

Loads Images poorly and slowly as Compared to Evernote

I did like the UI of the app, but I was highly depressed to waste my money on the app, the app does not load the images very well. I basically use evernotes , to take screenshots of the video lectures and save them, and use them later. When i used alternote, it does not sync that fast , and poorly hangs in middle of saving.

I very much regret purchasing this app

Miss content (like content between ‘<‘ and ‘>’) when syncing notes. Horrible! Luckily it became a conflicting note. Sync often result in conflicting notes. The first character (used to be the first 2 characters) cannot be Chinese of a new note, but only English, so I had to delete the first character every time. I tried this because Evernote Mac App is slow, but sometimes this is even slower. Good idea, but lousy implementation. I very much regret purchasing this.

A very clean and useful front end for evernote

I put all my notes and reference materials in Evernote. This is a great front-end for writing and storing it in evernote forever. It is fast, good looking, clever and I love it.

Best way to use evernote

This app is very useful in using with evernote, I write & take notes a lot in evernote. So for my writing I needed a dark skin for evernote and this app has it. Also there are many featuers that help you while writing in evernote with this app. awesome app 5 stars. for devlopers: I like to see an options to change or add more style color, i meant more dark skins colors or even darker. thanks for this awesome app

The Evernote client I always wanted

Alternote is super clean and works fantastically. I love using Alternote for simple notes. I am having issues on 10.11 El Capitan, but it’s still in beta, so I’m still giving Alternote 5 stars. Great app.
